We have added a collection of Galena pottery to our site, a nice baker's dozen. Some are fine, some not so much. Galena pottery was produced in the Galena area from 1843 until the 1880s. It is a soft redware body with lead glazes. (yikes! it was primarily used to store food) Unglazed pieces were also produced, mainly decorative flower pots. Can you imagine how sophisticated this town was to have a demand for flower pots, when most other towns were trying to get the bare necessities?
